Air FilterThe function of a vehicles air filter is to clean the air before entering the combustion chamber. The air must be free of particles before it mixes with the fuel. The size and geometry of these filters will vary due to the specifications car manufacturers. In most cases a filters shape will be determined by the room available in the engine bay. Overtime the filter will become clogged with dust and dirt. This will deprive the engine of the necessary air required for optimal combustion resulting in surplus fuel being discharged. Black exhaust fumes are an indicator that the filter requires replacing. Failing to replace the air filer at service intervals can also cause debris to damage to the air mass sensor causing costly repairs |
